    Not seeing synchronize (SWC) reminders

    I have my Revit set to 30-minute local save reminders, and 2-hour SWC reminders. I've had it that way for over a decade and set all installations the same way. However I have noticed recently that I get the local save reminders, but I'm not seeing the regular SWC reminders. Seems like it was working not too long ago, so maybe the 2019.2 update broke it?

    I just checked my current file in the Worksharing Monitor and it said it had been almost 6 hours since my last sync! That is NOT good practice in my book! I've trained myself to always save before printing or exporting just in case of a crash (has happened before), but since it's been awhile since I've done that today, I haven't manually hit the sync button for most of today until just now.

    Have a look at your Revit.ini file check what is stored for these:

    [Backups]
    SaveReminderMinutes=15
    SaveToCentralReminderMinutes=15

    I see this:

    [Backups]
    SaveToCentralReminderMinutes=120

    Not seeing the "SaveReminderMinutes" line, which is odd because that's the reminder that I AM getting currently.

    At 120 minutes I'd never get that reminder either...because I'd never go that long without syncing my work. I don't go ten minutes without syncing...
    keckers and tidalwave1 like this.

    This. Two hours is (just my opinion) lunacy. A local save without a SWC is practically worthless. Actually, i dont even hit save anymore.

    We currently have 15 minute SWC reminders set, but the problem we have is that no matter how many times you tell people "if you see this dialogue box don't ignore it" and "if you see this your not saving regularly enough" they still would rather hit the cancel button at the bottom instead of the SWC button. Will be keen to use the Parallax Team 'Sync with Central Timer' App when it is released.

    Its technically released. We have a couple of small things were still ironing out the hiccups on (BIM 360, and the FIRST sync is what STARTS the timer... So from the time they OPEN the file until the first sync, they are on their own).

    But as we work out those issues, customers who already have the tool will be entitled to the updated version, too. But as the forum isnt to be used for marketing, reach out via email if you want information on the current version.

    EDIT: Im a total dumbass. Its already working with BIM360, because the proejct im currently working on... is on BIM 360.

    EDIT EDIT: Looks like the File Open thing is resolved too, i think. I didnt install the latest update. LMAO.

    ^^ This ^^

    Can someone please explain to me why "just" doing a Local Save is better than a SWC?
    What's the advantage?
    What we've found is the longer you wait, the longer your SWC takes.
    If you do frequent SWC, our experience is that it doesn't take any longer than a Local save.
    Also, I'm of the opinion that you are more efficient by being consistent than attempting to shave off a second or two here & there.
    If you simply hit the SWC every time, you don't waste the time thinking "When was the last time I SWC'd. Should I SWC now, or should I do a Local? Hmmm..."
    Ditto for making a New Local when you open.

    If you want to get technical, i think SWC's can actually be decently faster than a local save, since they ONLY push and pull deltas, whereas a local save is a "write the file."

    Thats an assumption, mind you (about local saves being a full "write the file." But ive never heard of them using the change engine to push only updates to local, so my assumption is it writes the entire file every time.

    My rule for when to SWC is: Did you just do something you dont want to do again? Sync. And yes, there are some types of edits i do on projects, where i sync at each command. Its really fast, when it hasnt been that long.

    And, you'll never (well, rarely) see the “Can´t edit element until WorkerBee resaves the element to central and relinquishes it and you Reload Latest.” message if you frequently SWC.
    Not to mention needing to do a SWC after seeing that anyway.
