    Wall sweeps / IFC export

I'm exporting my revit model to .IFC and we have noticed that all wall sweeps are classed as "objects" within the IFC and not walls. Part of our BEP states that "objects" are not allowed within the IFC file I've tried changing the IFC export classes for a wall sweep via the IFC options but this hasnt worked. It seems as if it takes it's export class from the fact it is a profile rather than a wall sweep and there isnt any option to change the class of a profile (i presume as it is a 2d element as opposed to a 3d one).

Is this something anyone else has come across before and if so does anyone know a workround or solution for this?

    Many thanks

Build your own (Face-Based) Families for anything you use Wall Sweeps for. Because of the problem you've now encountered, Wall Sweeps are Do Not Use if the deliverable is an IFC file.

Autodesk is aware of this, Angel confirmed it is on their to-do list when he was at the IFC day at Schiphol little while ago.

Bjorn, thank you very much. I'm glad in one way that at least i now know im doing something fundamentally wrong. Hopefully this is something that will get a fix in due course as we use sweeps a lot for copings and brick detailing.

I wonder if a face-based family will work on a curved wall??

Nope. Build something that has a radius parameter so it can curve along it's path.

Just change your BEP and the problem is solved.

Don't let the documentation make it harder for you, BIM is there to help, not to make it harder.

edit: BEB needed to be BEP

Unfortunately we dont create the BEP. The client creates the BEP based on what they need to achieve / provide at the end of the job.
