Model view as background in drafting view / equivalent?

    Hello

In a drafting view is it possible to 'underlay' a model view? I want my 2D detail to remain up to date with the model - as I see it I therefore need the model to be referenced to the drafting view to do this.

Currently for 2D detailing I either 1) draw it in a model view and hide all model elements after tracing them or 2) export a dwg from the model and bring it back in to a drafting view. Both of these methods seem flawed work-arounds to me.

    Please send help. Thanks

No, not possible. There are two basic methods to start a detail: over a model view as a callout or as a drafting view. Once you take the drafting view way, the detail has no relation to the model. The first method is for details specific to the project and may contain both model and detail component items. The second method is for typical details and contains only detail items.

You could always use a Sheet. 1st create a Live callout to put onto a sheet, then the drafting view (must have at least a line drawn to place on a sheet). Then "presto" a referencing background that I'd set the "Display Model" setting to "Halftone".
