Px Tools (pragmaticpraxis.com) can do it at deployment. Thats how ours work. And- if you set up AutoCAD with Enterprise and User CUIX files, with a custom ARG, and custom shortcuts, it does those too using the same techniques. Thats why its a no brainer for me. The whole setup took 5 minutes, after having the icons made.

    Got it!
The icon is stored in the Installation folder
I copied Aaron's icons to the folder and renamed to REVT.ico
    C:\Windows\Installer\{7346B4A0-1800-0510-0000-705C0D862004}\REVT.ico
My sleuthing tells me that the
    7346B4A0 part means Revit and
    1800 means version 2018, 1700 is 2018 and, of course 1900 is 2019.
no idea what the rest of the numbers mean. Nor why it's named REVT and not REVIT

But I copied Aaron's Reviticon_2018.ico file into that folder, and renamed it to REVT.ico and now all my icons - desktop and Task Bar - have the fabulous version showing.

Hovering does reveal the version, but that requires *patience* to actually check [slight sarcasm]. Many users I see click first, look later. Then they have to wait for the wrong version to complete opening, then shut it down, then [hopefully] *look* then click a different icon.

I appreciate the sharing of the icons, thanks to both @brianmpayne and @twiceroadsfool !!!

Or they are like me, and when they click the wrong one, they immediately click the right one also. MOVE YOUR ASS COMPUTER. LOLZ. And i hate waiting for the hover-over-action. Im impatient.

I do this all the time when the boss is standing near me in the hopes I'll get a RAM upgrade

An ability to remember which one is which, and wanting better icons, are not mutually exclusive. I haven't had a "problem" remembering which one is which, but that doesnt mean it isnt "nicer" to have them labeled. If you think its a waste of time, "cool!" No one is making you bother with it.

But over thirty people have downloaded them so far. So... not everyone agrees with you.

Most of the icons in my task bar are blank. No idea why. Annoying as hell.
