    Revit Video Card

    Hello, if someone could please help me with this issue I am having would be greatly appreciated. I just bought a laptop and installed revit 2018 and noticed something wrong with the graphics. Whenever I zoom into a wall in plan view or any lines, the drawing goes blank and I cant see anything. Also, in 3d when I rotate the model, the building goes blank except the glass. When I click on options / graphics it says unknown Video card and the following message:

    The installed video card 'NVIDIA GeForce 940MX' has not been tested with Revit.
    You may continue to use Hardware Acceleration.
    If you experience graphics display issues, you should:
    - Turn off Hardware Acceleration

    If I turn off hardware acceleration, revit becomes slow. I recently installed the latest driver for the video card so could this be an issue. Please let me know of any possible solutions as working like this can get very frustrating.

    Try updating the driver from nVIDIA.

    From what I've read, gaming graphics cards are usually not the best for Revit.

    Nonsense. I use a custom-built rig with a GTX 960 graphics card and it works amazingly well. In my experience in the last several years, I've found nVIDIA GeForce GTX cards in general work great with Revit, while Quadro graphics cards don't offer much more benefit at all, so they end up being more of a waste of money.

    If you're doing video editing and high end animation rendering, like with 3DS MAX, then a Quadro card might make sense. But for Revit it's not really necessary.

    But, I have also found that updating drivers can alleviate some graphical issues that come up every now and then.

    Ha...must have been an Autodesk Whitepaper... They are great with Revit as they are made for 3D. Actually, it is the GTX cards that work great. The MX cards will work, but they are not as great as GTX cards. So you probably will want to disable hardware acceleration.

    Also, make sure that the 940MX card is the "Dedicated Card" in the graphics display settings for all programs, as your system more than likely has an Intel card on it too.

    Thank you guys for your responses. I actually got it to work again. I uninstalled the latest NVIDIA graphic display driver which seemed to be the cause of the problem.

    There is a long history of the latest graphics card driver not necessarily being the best one for running in Revit. Sometimes you do need a newer driver, and sometimes you need an older driver. I recommend keeping a list of video cards that are in the office, and which drivers work the best with Revit. Then telling everyone not to change them without good reason.

    Michael is right that if the card is not sufficient, turning off Hardware acceleration may be the only Avenue to make Revit stable. Having said that, I would literally buy a new computer before I would run Revit with Hardware acceleration turned off.
