    Revit - IFC versions

    Hello all,

I am using the Revit 2017 and I have installed the IFC 2017. When I go to export IFC I have many IFC Versions that I can choose. Could someone tell me which is the better version of IFC? Which is the difference between these?

    Thank you in advance!
    Regards,
    Maria

This very much depends on where you are sending the IFC to. What is the end application reading the IFC? What does the end application need to do with the IFC? COBie? Co-ordination? Re-modelling? (Not really the intended purpose of IFC) IFC 2x3 is the most commonly used.

I have started experimenting the IFC4 transfers between Revit and AECOsim and the results are pretty good. Geometry quality is definately better in IFC4. Some applications may not have the ability to read IFC4 yet.

    Hello bjohn,

I would like to have as much information as I can in the IFC file format, for Co-ordination and re-modeling purposes.

About the end application I am interested mainly for CATIA and Inventor, but do you know if I can import/export in these?

I am reading that the most common shema of IFC is Ifc 2x3..

    Regards,
    Maria
