    Daylight portals

    When rendering, I get multiple daylight portals activated whereas I would normally have a limited few in the area which I'm rendering. Do the redundant portals affect the time it takes to render and if so is there a way of limiting to the one's I want active?

    You can use a section box to control the number of dayight portals used in the rendering process. Turn on the section box in the view you are rendering and adjust it to only include the area you are rendering or will have an affect on your light quality in your rendering. thsi should reduce the number of daylight portals included.

    By default the "true" calculation of daylight portals is turned off and a general opening is used for the rendering. In the custom settings you have to delibertaly turn on the daylight portal settings in order for them to even affect the rendering quality and time to render.

    FYI - Daylight Portals are probably THE setting that will have the most negative effect on your rendering times... using a section box like Jeff suggested would help, but you should consider leaving them OFF, and light up your scene in a different way. (use a fake omni light if you have too)

    Ahhh the disapoointment of things that used to be included in Lightscape before Autodesk killed that program. In LS you could pick which windows or curtainwall were daylight openings. I would love to see them implement the ability to define opening sets just like light groups. But, no such thing. One important item to note is with curtainwalls, be sure that you have defined which curtainwalls are exterior verses interior. This is an instance property with the curtainwall. If you have interior CW's set to exterior, I have seen that it looks like exterior light is coming from interior walls.
