    Converting Families to Un-hosted

Is there a relatively simple / easy method to take a family that is created with a host (wall, face, etc) and make it un-hosted without having to recreate everything? We do a ton of repetitive unit buildings (apartments, assisted living) and hosted families don't work well in groups without jumping through a lot of hoops that really aren't worth it most of the time.

I know the copy/monitor trick to change the host to a face but that doesn't create something with no host. Copy/Paste will sometimes work but it doesn't always copy over constraints (unless I'm doing something wrong?).

Most of what I need to convert are things like bathroom fixtures (toilets, urinals) and accessories (paper towel dispensers) and I'd rather not recreate them if I can avoid it.

About the best you can do is nest the hosted (assuming it's only face based) into the non-hosted and re-link parameters. It will make the family bit heavier but should do what you're after.

I haven't tried changing a wall, ceiling, or floor based family ever, that I can remember.

For face-based, all you need to do is load it into a generic workplane family. You can place the family by workplane. If there are any voids involved that cut the face object in the face-based template, it may not function as well, but from what I've experienced there aren't any glaring issues.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

looks like it's the only workaround, i have a dream - i can convert cleanly all hosted families to non-hosted except face-based for void cutting purpose, can factory make it happen?!
