Model pattern not visible on ramps in plan views?

Have I lost it, or is this really happening? Open a blank file, draw a ramp and assign any MODEL pattern to the material. View the ramp in plan and 3D view. The pattern is visible in 3D views and elevations, but not plan.

Why is this, and what have you done to "fix" it?

I was originally using sloped floors but railing doesn't play nice with those.

Nope, you haven't lost it. Stairs work the same way. You will see those model patterns in 3D, and even in elevation. But in plan stairs, ramps and rails all show a bit of a fabricated 2D representation, which ignores model patterns. Probably a genius idea in 1999 when processors where about as fast as a three toed sloth, but long sense more like a bug than a feature. I suspect the fix will be a byproduct of these items eventually getting a ground up rewrite, rather than just the pattern problem getting fixed.

It might be possible to use a Plan Region around the ramp, set the cut plane to slice thru and show the cut pattern?

No, since ramps are not cut by the cut plane

Yeah, couldn't get anything to work that great. Just resorted to doing model lines on the surface. Works ok, just a little more work involved.

Scratch that previous post. Model lines do not work OK on ramps...see attached image...

Another way might be to use a Floor with a Slope Arrow or edited points instead of a Ramp.

Cliff, I tried railing on sloped floors first and it required even more workarounds. If you have a ramp with a mid landing, the balusters just follow the first section of ramp and burry themselves in the rest of the ramp. I tried doing multiple rails just sectioned on each piece of ramp and it was a pain to get everything lined up. Railing works MUCH better on ramps, and if I can have railing that works easy, I'd rather just find a work around for the ramp surface. Maybe I'll just do sweep reveals...

You can do it with a filter. Just create a filter called Ramps (or whetever). It will be associated with ramps (obviously). Leave the filter rules as none.

Add it to your view, then override the surface pattern. I did the same thing to show a surface pattern on a wall that's below the cut plane.

Nevermind. I missed the part about the MODEL patterns. Oops.
