    family hosting

Inserting a toilet fixture from a downloaded Kohler BIM file. All good except that it wants to use a wall as a host instead of the floor. In Properties the host is half-toned and wont allow change. Can't believe I'm the only one. Any help on this? Thanks.

There are instances in which a hosted element needs to be changed to face-based, for which there's a work-around here. However, even if you could apply this work-around to your toilet, there's a good chance it will change the orientation of the family.

What's the purpose in making it floor-based, anyway? Is there not going to be a wall behind it in your application?

It wants to attach the base of the fixture to the wall, so the nose of the fixture is buried in the floor. So my first pass was to try and make the floor as the host but it seem to want to let me do that. Thanks for your input.,, I'll try the work-around you suggest.

The Kohler families are face based and face based families default to a vertical surface when you insert them into a project. You should see some options in the context tab to select Vertical Face (i.e. wall), Face or Work Plane. If your floor is already in place select Face, otherwise Work Plane will get you what you need.
