This is something we have been doing with revit structure since it was released to highlight load bearing structure under, until release 2011 you could overlay a second view of elements on the sheet with with a solid fill cut pattern and set the elements to transparent a get a good print result.
For the 2011 release the transparency no longer works, Autodesk confirmed this change adding "overlaying two views is not a supported workflow" I can get a similar result now by overlaying 4 plans! But I won't get into that

Strange, the two methods I discribed do still function. What exact metod did you use? But good to know it is not supported.

Another drawback to the 3D-material override approach is that overlapping masses in a family show up darker.

Anyway, my conclusion for recommended workflow stacking views:

    1 don't, lot of hassle
2 if you absolutely must, proceed with caution, especially in upgrading

Did think of a valid argument to go ahead with it though.

:debating mode: adhering to governamental drawing codes gives overburdened civil servants one less argument to postpone approval :/debating mode:

They'll find those anyway, I know. But I can at least make them work for it

With the upgrade to 2011, an element with a solid color cut pattern set to transparent no longer printed transparent when overlayed on top of another view on the sheet. This is something that always worked with previous releases

So that just leaves the 3D view option. That is, did you try printing with raster settings?
