Saving Central file locally onto desktop

Two people have done this... We have a 4 central files, each connected to one another by via shared coordinates, and MEP and Structural models linked into each--12 models in all... I know this process of saving one of the local files to a desktop is far from correct, and not a good practice, but I want to understand all of the implications of doing this. Problems? Issues? Implications? Would their changes still be able to sync? the whole idea scares me...

Sorry I don't get the part where you says you want to save one of the local files to a desktop. Can you be clear on what do you want to achieve, exactly?

The act of copying the central file (using windows) to ones desktop will create it into a local file. Now if someone directly opens the central file (in Revit) and saved it to the desktop that's a whole different issue. Directly saving a central file from Revit, that central file now becomes a new central file and loses all of its associations to the original central file. NO ONE SHOULD EVER DIRECTLY OPEN THE CENTRAL FILE!

If I were you I would break out the beatings stick and whack people up side the head till they start opening and saving files correctly. :coo:
