Material Hatch Origin in Generic Model Family

I am having issues with manipulating material hatch origins in a generic model family. When I use the align or move tool with the hatch the entire generic model family instance is moved rather than the hatch. The hatch is always located so the origin is in the lower left hand corner of the generic model instance. When I use the same material in a wall instance, the hatch is updated as desired without affecting the overall wall instance. This behavior is typical regardless of where the hatch pattern originates (Out of the Box, or custom).

I know that I can just use the wall tool and have the behavior of the material be as expected, but I am working with custom precast concrete shapes which will have brick inlay at many different locations. So, having the material associated with the generic model family is really critical for our needs.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any input. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a simple file which illustrates the issues.

    Thanks,

I am also wondering the same thing. Is there a way to use a model pattern within a family and have the ability to align it within the project, which may put it at a different origin for each instance?

Just like trying to use the paint tool on a family loaded into a project, I don't think what you want will work as you can't tie a parameter onto the location of a hatch. There are sure to be ways to create something that represents and adapts as you like but IMHO by the time you set that mess up you'd be better off just having a unique family for each type.
Having one uber-family would be nice but if you are creating static (wall) elements as families they really are unique items anyway.

edit- or just align the hatch pattern within the family
