    Exit Door with Interior Mullion

I need a family of aluminum double doors that shows a centre mullion on the interior (see attached pictures). This is reflecting an existing condition for a building in which we are doing a renovation. I need the centre mullion to be visible in plan because it affects exit widths for building code analysis. I've previously tried to achieve something similar by modeling a curtain wall, inserting the two doors in adjacent panels and showing a mullion between them but then when I go to create my door schedule it forces me to itemize each panel as separate doors.

Can anyone advise on where to find a family that reflects this condition, or at least advise on a better work around?

    Welcome to the Forum.

Yeah, there are families out there that have that provision built in, but it might be easier to just modify a double door you already have, to accommodate.

Reason being, Door Libraries (and all libraries) are all built with different Shared Parameters and Standards, and since Doors are something heavily scheduled in projects, chances are a door that you download wont work correctly in your project anyway.

Love it when I get the "My door doesn't show in the door schedule!" When I ask where they found "their door".... "at Revit City"

And then they blame you and talk smack on your well thought out and implemented system... or is that just me?

it is more of a: "how do I fix it?" Or "Will you fix it?"

Thanks for the input everyone. We're constantly having this issue. Personally my Revit skills are decent but not at the level that I can just whip in and mod a family up for every situation that arises (I've already spent a generous amount of project time on this one question). As a small office we don't have the resources to have someone developing our families library with consistent standards but of course things like doors and windows come in so many different configurations (especially when dealing with an existing building!) that we often end up putting something in our plans that is "close enough for now" but isn't 100% accurate which means we have to add extra notes on the door schedule, or use detail lines to redraw plans and elevations.

It's frustrating because it's the kind of thing that we use Revit in order to automate, but unless you have an endlessly comprehensive kit of parts for every situation (or an intern to constantly churn them out) you end up making half-assed work-arounds that defeat the whole purpose of BIM.

Am I wrong? Is there an easier solution that I'm not seeing?

Yes there are easier solutions. but they're not free.
There are several configurable Door Packages you can buy.
CTC Software has one called SuperDoor
Aaron (above) has a popular door package on his Parallax site
    I'm sure there are others.
You'll have to pay for quality, but when you consider how much time you're wasting yourself, you'll find that FAR outweighs the cost.

Or you can reverse engineer Aaron's doors and make your own. It's been one heck of a process but what I learned from doing was well worth it.
