    Creating Parameric hole (location)

    Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if this is possible or how you might go about doing it. I'm trying to set a parametric location for a drain so that when you select a family type name it will move to that location based what you have selected. As of right now, the drain is constrained in the middle of pan. Here is a video to better illustrate my point.

    The video should work now.

    Thank you,

You'll need to create a couple of Reference Planes, and dimension them.
Then assign Type parameters to those dimensions.
    I assume that's a void that's creating the drain.
Edit the Void Extrusion & select the circle that's the Sketch line.
In the circle's properties, there's a check box for "Center Mark Visible".
Check that and then you can Align and Lock the horizontal and verticals to your Reference Planes

One more thing: You'll probably want to make those Reference Planes "Not a Reference". If you do, then in the project they won't show up when you use the Align tool

Thank you for the reply. Will I have to create dimension lines for each location? The drain will have to be offset depending on the size of the pan. There is a center drain, off-set drain and corner drain.

That's why they should be a Type parameter.
You add a Dimension, then assign a parameter to it.
Then, for each size, you create a new Type, and set the correct location parameter

You also mentioned "not a reference" how might I do this. I'm REALLY sorry about all the questions. I've only been working in Revit for about a week.

How would you go about setting the location parameter? Thank you again in advance.
