    Question Pre-Engineered Metal Building Framing

    Let me first say, this is one of my first forays into adaptive components - so please keep that in mind.

    I have been trying to figure out how to create a Metal Building column \ beam assembly using adaptive components. Since there are usually several bends in a typical frame line, I thought this would be ideal. There is not a Structural Framing category for adaptive components, but since I will not be scheduling, detailing or doing calculations with these members I do not consider this to be a problem. I can't seem to get the family just right. A 10-point family seems to be most ideal and allow for flexibility. However, the flanges don't want to cooperate. Any help you experts may have is appreciated. I have attached some files for reference.

    You are making it more complicated than it has to be. No reason to use adaptive components for this... see the attached.

    And by the way, the "angeled" ref. planes, need to be ref. lines to make it work

    Dude, you're spoiling all the fun...

    About this: I'm not quite sure how the OP got from the posted families to the screenshot. I'm not seeing that geometry so I can't test.
    BUT: this looks like the problem lies in the vectors of the lines you drew.

    Is this your workflow?

    1. Create form as shown in family attached to the OP
    2. Import in parent family/project
    3. Apply solids by using the Pick Line command

    If so, you need to redraw all the sketchlines in the Adaptive Family IN THE SAME DIRECTION (being clockwise or counter-clockwise). This should solve your problem...

    Thanks, Klaus! This is a well-done family. Do you have one of these for a lean-to frame? I have made one of these myself in the past (using reference lines). Obviously, it wasn't as nice as yours. The reason I would like to use adaptive components for this is the interactive aspect of adaptive components. For instance, your steel truss family has one break point on the upper (beam) part of the frame. Some of the manufacturers we work with have multiple break points (see attachment). I would like to just be able to go to a section view, sketch my framing member, and be done. I don't want to have to adjust all kinds of parameters. If the member needs to be adjusted, I can just drag the points instead of fooling with parameters. Do you have any suggestions for making this work with an adaptive component?
