A Material Cutout is an option in some material bases that allows you to apply a black-and-white alpha channel to effectively 'cut' or 'remove' a design in a material. Image 01 shows a round circle mesh cutout and what the material will look like rendered. Image 02 shows what it would look like in shaded view/basic 3D by using a model pattern and adjusting its transparency. If you absolutely need to show every fin perfectly with exacting thickness, you'll have to model them or get creative with materials.

So what we ended up with was a 1" floor that shows a custom bar grate hatch in plan view and the image for the 3d views. Another hatch was made for the section cut and is applied to the floor type as well.
