Show Revit Family Insertion Point in Project

    Hello,

Is there a way to find the insertion of a family when placed in a project? I know I could just place the family and see where it is on my cursor, but I need to draw lines from the insertion point. In AutoCAD, you can designate a line to start from an insertion point. Was curious to know if there was anything comparable in Revit.

    Thanks!!

By insertion point, do you mean the "origin" as defined by the origin reference planes? Unless those reference planes are set to "not a reference", you should be able to snap to them in the project (and thereby snap to their intersection).

Out of curiosity, what type of family is this? Depending on the family, it might be more likely that you'll want to create the family such that you can draw the lines from corners, edges, centers or other definite part of the family, rather than a nebulous "insertion point" (after all, even in ACAD, a block could be created with no relevance to 0,0, rendering the insertion point useless).

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the point of origin. They are all casework families.

I have sometimes used invisible symbolic lines to represent the origin. They show up when the element is selected and pre-selected.
