    View Reference for Reference Callouts

One of the things I don't like about detailing in Revit is the way Reference other view tool works. I would, ideally, like to place all my callouts, not worrying about where they were, and later come back and link them to the view. The current process is slow, and cumbersome.

I think I'm onto a potential solution using View Reference tags in 2013.

I tweaked the view reference symbol to make it look like more like a callout. It works great. I can place them to my hearts content and come back later and link them to their respective views. This is more proof of concept but it's a start!

The downsides are you can't have instance parameters with the symbol so you'll need multiple blocks for detail size, reference location, etc. But still... it's promising!

Enjoy and if you find ways to make it better let us know!

You might be able to do something like this using the Revit WorkFlow add-in. It has an AutoLink function that could be adapted. Revit workFlow - Features

Being able to change a callout to a reference (or update the reference later) would be awesome.
