Just came across a free cadclips video for assemblies in 2012...

no curtain walls in assemblies...that sucks big time for a curtain wall detailer!

I just quickly looked into this as I was curious and I was able to create assembly drawings from curtain panels created from a divided surface placed on a conceptual mass then imported into a Revit Project.

Thats not a Curtain Wall, its a Pattern Family on a Mass. Very Different. Not the same.

True, it is not a "Curtain Wall", however, if you applied custom curtain panel by pattern elements, and brought the mass into the model, the panels become part of the model and they can be used in assemblies. I think the bottom line may be, although curtain walls are not included in assemblies, can I perform this function another way?

It not being a *Curtain Wall* is a much bigger issue than simply dismissing it, though. Pattern Based system: What are you doing for mullions? Forming each half of the mullion inside the panel, around the perimeter? Thats going to look hellishly sloppy in a set of drawings. As well as issues of joinging geometry, the high number of variations in panels you will need since all 4 mullions are now included as part of the panel, and so on.

Can you perform the function another way? It depends on what function were talking about. Assemblies werent available (obviously) last month, so what is the *function* we are doing with them that us so critical that we are discussion using the Pattern Based system AND having to leave Masses turned on in every single view of the Architectural Model, and having to finagle View Templates and additional filters and parameters to subset out the masses you dont want to see versus the ones you now need because you arent using real curtain walls and curtain systems? And what about the vertical elements you would normall draw with a regular Curtain WALL and not a Curtain System? Now we are relegating ourselves to massing for every single application we use a Curtain Wall or a Curtain System for, just so we can get to the assemblies that can only work on the Patters, which have mullions divided in to odd chunks that are tied to the panel themselves?

Maybe its just me, but i dont see that as any small amount of compromise. Its pretty huge, as far as im concerned. Whats the end goal with the Assemblies?
