Thread: New issue w/ Topo crashing

This has happened on two different projects: entering topo points, same as always, & try to save (Green Check Mark) out of edit mode & Revit simply vaporizes from the screen. A little error msg flashes by but nothing else, no warnings, no opportunity to save a recovery file either. I've taken to be very limited in the amount of elevation points I place before saving out - it seems to not mind as much if I only do a few feet of entries (relative Zero, +2, -2) then save. Open back up, add a few more feet, save again. Very tedious.

Anyone else experience similar? FWIW all of my past topo issues have usually been driven by large areas & memory consumption. So when I built this box I added what I thought was a whopping 16 Gb, and now it bites me in the ass. Go figure.

Ouch, that is ugly. Thankfully, I have not had any similar sort of issues with 2013.

Out of interest, is your template an updated one or one created from the base 2013 templates which ship with Revit? If it is the former, I would try a test with one of the OOTB templates. I don't think there is anything at all which has changed in 2013 vis a vis topo, but, I would give it a try as there maybe some small tweak in the background somewhere or other.

I hadn't thought about the template, Ian. I'm using one that I created a few years ago, certainly not the OOTB one. I'll try that - does the 'Import' function then work to establish all of your settings?

I just tried the 2012 template topo & it worked fine.

That's good that it was a simple fix.

Given all of the changes with stairs by components etc in 2013, this is the first year that I have actually created a brand spanking new template rather than simply upgrade the previous one. I am sure it is probably a good policy to follow with every release but, I have been lazy up until now.

Just ran into this. Lost 30 minutes of tedious back-breaking work. Just started with 2013 yesterday. Today may be my last (for a while). In just a few hours of use, it's been nothing but problems.

I just lost 2 hours of work with damn topo surface!!!!

You are right, few small changes and you can save your work no probs. But if you do more than a dozen of clicks without saving, it will crash. I resorted in going to CAD and modifying all my survey contours into proper height positions and then importing.
But I can't change the bloody thing without it crashing.

Yes it is an updated 2011 template but how the @#$% does Autodesk expect us to "figure out" this stuff on our own.
If this program was few hundred dollars worth I could maybe understand but it is thousands of dollars that we pay for unusable software.

I now have to spend days converting new default 2013 template into office standard. Can anyone confirm that it doesn't do the same with default 2013 template?
