    Backup Folders of Archived Files

At major project milestones, we create an archived .rvt file and save it in the project folder on our network. Since most of our projects have worksharing enabled, each time a user saves an archive copy, it also creates the standard "..._backup" folder. Under some current concerns about project folder sizes, I was asked about the size of the archive folders, which can get rather large.

It is my understanding that it would be okay to delete the automatically created "...backup" folders, since we'll never have to rollback these files since they are showing the model at a specific point in time. Before I share this info with our IT department, I just wanted to confirm that my thinking was correct. Any thoughts?

    I'll agree with your assumption.
AFAIK, the only thing "useful" in the _backup folders is the permissions.
Assuming you're going to Open Detached several years from now when you want to bring that project back to life, Revit will just recreate the _backup folder at that time.
