    REVIT 2012 problems?

Hello everyone. Anyone here in the community who have already installed REVIT 2012 is finding some kind of problem with the program? I have read some comments that this is the worst version ever released of REVIT, on account of these comments I am hesitant to install, at least for now, despite being a big fan of the software. Any suggestions?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

And no, I´ve no problems with 2012 what so ever... there´s been reports of problems with the install, but that´s about it... nothing to worry about IMHO. (IF/WHEN you get it installed correctly )

    Hi, and welcome here.

I've RST 2012 now,and I have no problem with it. maybe some will go the surface after using it for months, but it's just like other soft (did you say Microsoft ? ;-) ).
But I'm very interested in where you've read such commentaries. certainly from people who don't even know what Revit is.......

Make your own idea by trying it, it' free of charge!!

Wbenatti, the one thread from this forum is a install problem, as I pointed out earlier... the others I´ve just read now, and if you wanna draw conclusions from those, then be my guest

RAC2012 downloaded, installed and works perfectly on my 64 bit system, with a decent hardware configuration

Fear breeds fear. Installed it on day one, and its been perfect so far, aside from the fact that the Group Floating Toolbar hasnt shown up. I havent even run the GUI Reset either, im sure that will fix it.

Upgraded a VERY large (300,000 sq/ft) hospital project to RAC 2012 yesterday. No issues so far today. I'm sure we'll find some issues eventually (and we'll develop a work-flow strategy to address those as usual).

FWIW, the person on that other forum saying 2012 is "the worst ever" said the exact same thing about 2011. And 2010, and probably 2009. You have to question the sanity of someone who keeps using a piece of software that is just getting worse and worse every year.

As for 2012, it is missing a ton of things I wanted/needed. And it has some things fixed this year that I think should have just been done right to start with last year. BUT, RAC 2012 is better than 2011. Which was WORLDS better than 2010. I will be rolling out 2012 within a week, and by the end of April 100% of new work will be in 2012. Migrating ongoing work will be addressed, as usual, on a project by project basis.

Last point. Every version of Revit for years has been just fine installed side by side with old versions. My advice is to install it. Then upgrade COPIES of your projects and look around for problems. They do occasionally happen in an upgrade situation. If you have no issues, then you are off to the races. If you have problems you can just keep working in the old version/model until a patch solves the problem or you find a workaround. What you most certainly don't need to do is not even install the new version out of any kind of fear.
But be aware, you and any Revit using consultants MUST upgrade at the same time, again on a project by project basis. We are an office of 40, with 5 or 6 projects going at any one time, and with deadlines (I don't upgrade a team less than a week or two before a deadline) and consultant implications, it often takes a month or two before all projects have upgraded. This adds to the complexity of the process a bit, and makes that side by side capability all the more important.

    Gordon
