Revit 2013 - roof framing extension missing?

Have I missed something - just seen a video of how to use the roof framing tool in the subscription extensions for Revit 2013...
Roof Framing Extensions for Autodesk Revit - YouTube

and I don't see it once downloaded and installed - just the wall framing.

    D'oh... it's in another download

What a brilliant tool... I could do something very similar 10 years ago in Nemetschek Allplan but not with the same amount of control or structural links.

Someone has put a lot of time and effort into this

Does it do the same as the revit tools one? If so, thats great. long time coming. Excellent for student tuition.

    I guess you mean the Tools4Revit add-on?

I don't know - I've only seen the demo videos of that, but the Revit extension is much more capable than I expected - the Revit extension even assigns a wood material to the timber which displays as 'timber' in section views.

It does all I need for now as I create a finish roof layer (slate on battens) and a structural roof below. Converting the latter using this extension is perfect in the traditional roofs I mostly come across so that I can see the rafter feet peeking out below the gutter line

I am impressed that you can set purlins at intermediate rafter span as well as under the ridge - someone has really thought this through.

Will, I’m glad it’s working for you. For me, on the other hand, not so well
I can’t set rafter tail type to plumb cut (see pic.). Revit 2013 - roof framing extension missing?-roof.jpg
It doesn’t recognize dormers and other openings except skylights.
In plan view (course), it looks funny (see pic.). Kinda useless for framing plan. Revit 2013 - roof framing extension missing?-roof2.jpg

Are you experiencing any of these?

I've only started using it but perhaps my expectations are lower as I remember much as you describe when using the Allplan tool for this many years ago.

The valley beams follow the profile of the roof planes they are based on and have a sort of cut out in their ends.

The plumb cut is an option when creating them but I chose to have part-flattened rafter feet so I'll have to check that.

The Allplan version was interactive and you could/can go back and edit the regions after creating the rafters but I quite like this Revit extension approach as it includes purlins.

Dormer roofs I would have thought will be separate roofs anyway but I will try that now you have mentioned it.

    cheers,

re. the framing plan - I would do mine like the attached - I'm not sure how you achieved the lines.

I've messed around with it a little bit. The rafter tool seems to be better than the truss tool, which can only create trusses for a roof with a single ridge I however don't know enough about roof framing to really be able to leverage it.

Rafter tails are editable by this extension (at least that is the goal), but it seems to be not working properly. When the plumb cut is selected, rafters have that angled cut instead of plumb. Square cut works ok.

I'm talking about dormer opening (and other roof openings), not dormer roof which is separate.

@ framing plan. You get the lines when you change Detail Level to coarse. That's how I show my framing plans (not only roof), but with dashed lines, but that's easy to change.

    Truss tool is useless!
