    Interesting Naming Fluke

    Try this.
Create a drafting view and name it "3/4:12"
    It works. Perfect
Now try to rename the drafting view you just created. Rename it to "3/4:12"

Strange huh. I wonder why the naming limitation do not apply to the creation of a view but do apply to the renaming of a view.

Could this possibly cause major issues with your project?
Are the naming limitations completely pointless?

"illegal characters" for file names should not be used for views because ultimately they'll bite you when/if you export to pdf/dwg etc... They ought to trap that on the first round. Fwiw, you can look forward to this in 2012 too... Fwiw, Revit doesn't care if you do it to Legends. Double standard I guess.

Yeah I figured that was the reason, so we exporting wouldn't cause wrong file names. But it can still be done. Guess you could look at this as a tip then. Revit wont always correct things that cant happen outside of revit.

That's like the one where you cannot select a family, edit it and duplicate it while editing a group (big error 'Cannot duplicate family in group edit mode').... but while editing a group, you can expand 'Families' in the project browser and duplicate the family there.

We also had a situation where someone had renamed a family within the project to include a "\". Then later on when he tried to edit the family from the project, he was unable to open it because of the "\."
